It was a star-studded night on Sunday as the 44th annual People’s Choice Awards (PCAs) took place at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. The PCAs were acquired by E! in April 2017 and are now known as E! People’s Choice Awards.
In order to separate itself from other top-notch events, the date for the award night was shifted from January to November. A smart move, considering that it meant more stars would be able to attend the celebrations rather than just drag on from one glamorous night to the next.
The ceremony stands out from the rest because the fans decide how it will all go down. People vote online and get to pick which of their favorite celebrities will be honored on the night. The 43 award categories encompass fan favorites from film, music, fashion, TV, pop culture and digital.
Chrissy Teigen, John Legend, Busy Philipps, Will Ferrell and more were presenting at the ceremony. The event was graced by the presence of several of our favorites. Legend, Rita Ora and Niki Minaj performed live at the event as well.
Avengers: Infinity War boasted 7 nominations and the most nominated musician for the night was Ariana Grande with 4 nods.
Nicki Minaj kicked off the show with her performance of “Good Form” from her album Queen. It was a big night for the singer/rapper as she took home album of the year for the same album and was also honored with the award for female artist of the year. Kat Graham and Lil Rel Howery presented Niki with the honor.
Victoria Beckham arrived looking classy as always in a white suit from her own fashion collection. Amber Valletta presented the former Posh Spice with the People’s Fashion Icon 2018 Award.
Melissa McCarthy, the charming comedic genius, was honored with the People’s Icon of 2018 Award.
John Legend took the stage and presented Bryan Stevenson with the people’s champion award for his efforts and dedication to eradicate racial discrimination in the criminal justice system. Bryan is a lawyer, professor, author and activist who also founded the Equal Justice Initiative.
Stevenson took this opportunity to talk about prevalent issues in the U.S and said, “Slavery did not end in 1865. It turned into decades of terrorism and violence.” He talked about being hopeful and letting go of hate.
